Arts and crafts

Rosie found these adorable crochet pumps online. Makes me want to take up crocheting and cross-stitching!

Rosie's spring 2010 mood board

On behalf of the lovely Rose, here is her Spring 2010 mood board. Her inspirations include classic tunes from the Cure and Rolling Stones, which kind of influences the vintage ripped denim, wayfarer wearing music festival vibe of the clothes she is enjoying. She has included some of her favourite beauty products too. xx

Lady in red

I NEED this dress (from Oasis, a UK chain store). Or something like this dress. If anyone knows a good tailor, holla at me.

Love, love, love.

Lets colour :)

Another music video today...one that I am watching every day as it makes me so happy. Well, not really a music video but an advert for Dulux Walls 'Lets Colour' project. You can find more about the initiative here...

The video feature's Jonsi's (of Sigur Ros) new single 'Go do.'

And now that you are inspired to paint, check out this gorgeous dress from Zac Posen's Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collection! Loving the velvet and the matching sheer tights!

Bargain!

So when people ask my charming sister where she bought something, her answer is 'not telling.'
I am slightly different, often choosing to launch into a detailed story that nobody cares about on exactly when and how and why I am wearing something.
Most often, I go on about how cheap the item was and how I almost didn't spot it as it was lying on the floor etc. My endearing love of the bargain is often at its brightest in the aisles of Mr Price. A particularly successful shopping trip the other day saw me buying the below jersey. I just love the ripped detail.
On surfing the Topshop blog I noticed that one of the buyers was photographed wearing a jersey dress with a similar 'ripped knit' concept. Except hers was purchased from TopShop boutique for 135 pounds and mine was around R130 (I think). Bargain!

Spring 2010 mood board

Here are a few of the things inspiring me for Spring/Summer 2010. Bridget Bardot because she is hottt and I love her style; 500 days of summer (espesh Zooey's dress in this shot); Audrey Hepburn playing guitar in Breakfast at Tiffany's; green playsuits; the Little Prince; Peacock feathers; the Great Gatsby and black crows (saw bits of The Crow for the first time the other night and loved the imagery).

I have featured a quote from the Little Prince, which translated means, 'One must look with one's heart, what is essential is invisible to the eye.'

It comes from an awesome chapter in the book that you can read here.

The reason I love the book, and this chapter so much is the simplicity with which it is written...in this particular chapter a fox teaches the Little Prince about the importance of taming, i.e., the act of establishing ties. In our fast paced world of instant connection via Facebook, one night hookups etc...I think the act of slowly establishing ties and gaining another's trust is all too often neglected.

Jazzing up my corporate suit

So I work for a highly corporate financier where an imaginative dress code is not really encouraged...However, I try my best to add exciting little touches to my work outfits, to please me more than anyone else. Usually this is in the form of outrageous underwear, but I've begun to turn my hand to accessorising.

Today, I a wearing a stunning little necklace I found at Sass Diva on the weekend (so cheap, LOVE instant gratification!) and an embellished headband from Forever New. Excuse the dodgy cellphone pic of the headband...I'm slightly hungover today and its beginning to show!

Denim cutoffs

This week, I am starting a draconian fitness regime including spinning classes, pilates and a protein-based diet...This is all in the efforts to fit into a pair of denim cutoffs for spring. Teamed with a white vest and some ray bans, I think the look is totally classic 90s and utterly awesome. Found this image on Elle.com, where they covered the fashion at Glastonbury a few weeks ago. Oh to be having an English summer right now, getting my legs out at a music festival!

How our name came about

Rosanna and I have an unbelievable knack of liking and buying the exact same thing, despite our nine year age gap. She has sometimes even rocked up at my place wearing the exact same outfit as me! However, if by any chance she is wearing something I have not spotted/bought I usually love it and ask her where its from.

Her reply is always the same.....Not. Telling.

Bitch!

Who we are

Welcome to not telling! This blog is mainly about the things we love in fashion...with some other stuff we love along the way. Its also about things we hate in fashion, as you soon will discover in our 'anti-fashion' posts.

But before we start sharing, here is a brief introduction to who we are:

Amy (me) 26 years old and working for the man (corporate comms), I like to believe my love of fashion began from very young, when I used to spend hours rolling neon sock upon neon sock in the 80's. There have been many mishaps along the way (such as my matric dance Beyonce-inspired 'unspeakable cornrow incident') and a bit too much tie-dye than I am comfortable to reveal...but all in all I think I have settled into my style. In terms of clothing, I am a fan of unexpected bargains, a dress addict, and love anything where I can get my legs out.

Rosanna (my sister)
A model and ballerina about to study architecture, Rosanna was born a lot cooler than her big sis. I like to claim this has something to do with my influence...but probably not. From her matching branded outfits at three years old, she has always put enviable ensembles together. This is probably why she has an unmatchable capacity to JUDGE others...Rosanna is a fan of greys and nude shades, layering, and getting her legs out (its a family trademark).
